A
Word About Nutrition
Nutrition is one of the few aspects of our lives we have the
ability to control. However, nearly 75% of the population in the United States is
considered overweight. Half of those who are overweight are excessively obese, and of the
25% who are left, only a fraction of these individuals deliberately follow a healthy
nutrition program and exercise regularly (many of them being amateur or professional
athletes, entertainers, or models).
Today, everyone is concerned about nutrition. You hear about
it everywhere, from your friends, relatives, and from the media and advertisements.
Everyone is talking about "fat-free." So how come so many people are fat,
malnourished, and have developed diet-induced health disorders? Are people lazy, ignorant,
or have they become overwhelmed and cynical by the bombardment of nutritional advice they
receive daily? Unfortunately, any or all of these reasons contribute to the anxiety our
society suffers concerning nutrition and weight management.
Welcome to DELLIS HEALTH & PERFORMANCE. You are about to
change your life through sensible nutrition designed to meet your specific fitness and
performance needs. You will soon join those who enjoy the health, energy, and strength
that others would cherish.
We have only one life and one body. You have chosen a path
that very few follow because they lack the necessary knowledge and resolve to affect
change in their lives. That is why so many resort to their own misguided techniques or
fall prey to the myriad of nutrition scams designed to do nothing more than empty your
wallet. We all know someone like this. They "diet" (starve) and do not exercise.
All they care about is what size garment they can fit into. However, when the concealing
garment is removed or replaced by a bathing suit, the story takes a bad turn. Hiding the
truth fools nobody. To those who say "I just want to tone, I don't want to build
muscle," we say, "toning is building muscularity and losing excess body
fat." Our muscles use 80% of the calories we consume. Therefore, the less muscle you
have, the fewer calories you burn, leaving more calories available for your body to store
as fat. With the exception of specialized cells in organs, such as the brain, our body
replaces all of its cells annually. What do you think it replaces those old cells with?
Think about it. As the saying goes, "we are what we eat."
Proper nutrition has a positive affect on your ability to
cope with the day-to-day stress of your career and personal life. Have you ever wondered
why people are in such bad moods at work or always have headaches and extreme mood swings?
Many individuals take assorted prescribed and over-the-counter medications to combat
ailments created by their own neglect and/or lack of knowledge concerning their nutrition.
A majority of physical maladies are due to a nutrient deficient diet and/or low blood
sugar. It is amazing how many people around you are functioning physically and mentally on
coffee and/or cigarettes (combined with medications they are taking), one or two large
meals, and very little water. What wonderful people to work or live with! They routinely
mistreat their friends, family, and coworkers and frequently deal irrationally with their
daily issues. Even small problems seem immensely challenging. However, they seem to be
unaware of their negative behavior.
Effective nutrition is not an accident, nor is it a difficult
process. However, breaking old eating habits and developing new ones seems to be the
Achilles heal. In fact, the nutrition aspect of any fitness program is where failure often
occurs. Many feel bewildered because they assume a great deal of time is required to
remedy their poor physical condition. We can assure you, however, that developing a
healthy physique requires only a portion of the time it takes to become unfit. Any
successful athlete will admit that two-thirds of their physical ability and appearance can
be attributed to their diet. Their dedication to sound nutrition can provide a substantial
advantage over opponents. You can experience this advantage whether you are a competitive
athlete or just enjoy a physically active lifestyle.
We are slowly losing our capacity to improve physically as we
age. Take advantage of your body's present abilities. It is never too late to improve your
physical fitness. DELLIS HEALTH & PERFORMANCE helps you be your best--for life.
